Nom nom nom nom nom. That is the sound of me devouring some scrummy hot cross buns that were delivered to me by courier from Bakers Delight. Courier, really? How cool.
I recruited the big guns for this review; my parents and my inlaws. Though not at the same time. The two sets of parents have met but if I can avoid it, they won't meet again. It's because I have the sinking feeling Map Guy's parents will see just how loopy my family is and say "Run, boy! Get out while you can!".
Why would they say that? Well, because of this:
Yes. That is my mother. They are her preferred poses for photos that are taken with the express purpose of being published FOREVER ON THE INTERWEBS.
*ahem*
So the tasting panel were there to taste, not to look either sane or pretty.
We got to sample three different flavours of hot cross buns; original (fruit with no peel), choc chip and mocha.
The verdict?
Original: Loved by everyone, particularly my Dad because he's not a fan of peel but loves the fruit. I really loved these cut in half and lightly toasted under the grill with a bit of butter on top. Divine!
Mocha: They tasted milder than expected after being smacked in the face by the overwhelming coffee aroma upon opening the bag. My Dad could only eat a quarter, they gave my Mum indigestion (though it could be related to how fast she inhaled it) and my Father-In-Law, the biggest coffee drinker of the lot, really enjoyed them. Map Guy and I don't drink coffee so we didn't try these ones.
Choc Chip: Both mine and my Mother-In-Law's favourite, after trying them we decided not to share them with the boys! There may be a fight between us for the last one, but I've got the home ground advantage.
Don't forget that this Saturday April 9th is ‘Bundraiser’ Day! All 630 Bakers Delight bakeries, donate $1 from every six-pack of hot cross buns sold to their local children’s hospital in an effort to raise more than $123,000 for sick kids. In WA it's going to Princess Margaret Hospital for Children, the hospital Tricky went to for his craniosynostosis surgery.
I've got five $5 vouchers to give away so if you want to get your hands on some delightful baked goodies from Bakers Delight (see what I did there? Clever, huh?) add a comment below telling me your favourite thing about Easter, even if, like me, you don't really celebrate Easter. My answer would be the public holidays.

Glowless rocked the Aussie Bloggers Conference thanks to
LOL... Well say Hello to your mum for me OK! Love it what a classic :-) xxx
ReplyDeleteAnyway i love making Easter stuff with miss 11 like cupcake bunnys ,dye eggs and hide them also crafty stuff she loves doing that kind if stuff in the school hols!
My favourite thing about Easter is the Red Tulip elegant rabbits. Yummmmmm!
ReplyDeleteWell it isn't just about fluffy bunnies who poop chocolate eggs for me as a Christian, but that is another story.I'm just here for your buns (+) (+)
ReplyDeletePumblic holidasy, because I'm an atheist who can't eat chocolate or gluten or dreied fruit
ReplyDeleteI love freckle eggs! (Like from Darrell Lea). Mother is going to kill you when she sees these photos! It's been nice knowing ya! :)
ReplyDeleteShe approved them! I know, I was shocked too!
ReplyDeleteBeing easter bunny & hiding hunderds (ok well maybe not hundreds) of eggs throughout the house or yard... especially those mini solid cadbury eggs they're evil! One for hiding, one for me, one for hiding, one for me... lol. yum.
ReplyDeleteYour Mum has got her glow goin' on. Love it!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE hot cross buns. My favourite food group ;P And I love Bakers Delight's little breast/yeast-related terminology too. Bundraiser? Awesome work.
Fave thing about Easter is the public hols and the crisp coolness in the air (from the weather, not the family having to spend 4 whole days together).
easter hmmm it USED to be the public holidays that i loved, now out of 5 days off, i'm working at least 2 of them, possibly more *sigh* so it's NOT the public holidays i love anymore!!
ReplyDeleteit's actually probably the fact that i get Guv home for 4 days [even if i'm working 1 of them] he normally gets shafted when it comes to public holidays!
and now i want some choccie hot cross buns! damn you!
~x~
My favourite thing about Easter is cooking for the family ( sounds mental, i know ). Last year is started making my "own" chocolates for the kids and fudge for the adults....this year its rainbow marshmallow eggs for the kids and chewy brownies for the adults.
ReplyDeletePlus, there is usually a big family meal somewhere in those four days off - family and food? Couldnt be better!
Best part about Easter for me is getting to celebrate twice. Once with my family, once with the inlaws.
ReplyDeleteIt avoids the awkward silences and I get twice the amount of food cooked for me. I think Im onto something.
The only thing I enjoy about Easter [because it's so expensive and I eat too much chocolate, thus I end up spending the rest of the year shifting weight that I get off before the whole weight gain process starts again] is the look of surprise on my kids' faces. Oh, and I love, love, love Good Friday because I love watching the Good Friday Appeal on TV :D
ReplyDeleteThe Easter Egg Hunt of course. ♥♥
ReplyDeletebig kid at heart here...i like the easte egg hunt, perhaps i get into it more than my boys!
ReplyDeleteand i love hot cross buns, but if I buy them i eat the whole pack in 10 minutes so i have to be careful not to buy them too often
oooh? MOCHA BuNS?! i want them.. I'll check that out tomorrow, but their baking agents have also given me tummy ache in the past.. hm.
ReplyDeletei reckon Easter, like Christmas have become part of our pop culture and don't only belong to christians. most traditions are anyway of pre-christian origin (i mean, eggs & bunnies?!) and they're fun for kids, so although i am atheist, i am definitively IN.
I got the choc chip ones today for Boo and he ate the lot.
ReplyDeleteBastard child.
Samelia's Mum & I will be new best friends - because the absolute best thing about Easter is the Red Tulip Elegant Rabbits (except for the price $5.50 for a rabbit? WTF??)
ReplyDeleteBut close second is definitely Bakers Delights Choc Chip hot cross buns, warm with butter melted on top. Simply divine!
PS: Your mum is hilarious!!!!
Oh, it has to be the chocolate! No, wait! It's Hot Cross Buns! As soon as they show up in the shops in January I pounce on them and stock up. I also make sure that I have a decent supply in the freezer for after Easter... Yum, yum!
ReplyDeleteI am a Christian, so for me personally I love remembering everything Jesus did for me. But I'm not going to preach here. My second favourite thing is hot cross buns. Chocolate I can eat any day of the year, but hot cross buns only come out at easter which is a shame because they are so incredibly yummy
ReplyDeleteMy favourite thing about Easter used to be that it was spring when I lived in Europe. Now I Easter still means spring to me, even though it is not...
ReplyDeleteAnd now that you made me thing about it, I miss my family there, so you have to give me that voucher to console me!!! (even though I have no idea where Bakers Delight is near me)
ReplyDeleteChocolate. What the fuck else would there be?
ReplyDeleteThe Mocha stank, ey!
I have to say though, once you let them 'air' for a little they are quite stomachable. Especially good with a coffee because they aint tooo sweet or nuttin.
I love their hot cross buns.
ReplyDeleteI love how easter egg chocolate tastes different to normal chocolate. Why is that.
But actually I think I am enjoying the kids excitment about the lead up to Easter most of all.
xx
Chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate. Oh and the hot cross buns with chocolate in it. And did I say chocolate?
ReplyDeleteThats what I love about Easter!
yummmmm mocca..thatss anew one for me and a must try..thx...awsome pics too....if the moccas can cause that reaction i'm all for it.
ReplyDeletePublic holiday and all the fun related to easter bunny is my favourite part...
ReplyDeleteYes please! I have never won a giveaway yet and SO want to- this one looks especially tasty! I want to try the mocha ones :)
ReplyDeleteSame!
ReplyDeleteI love the Easter Bunny. He brings chocolate eggs. Yumm!
ReplyDeleteI can remember my mother singing the Mother Goose nursery rhyme to me:
ReplyDeleteHot-cross Buns!
Hot-cross Buns!
One a penny, two a penny,
Hot-cross Buns!
Hot-cross Buns!
Hot-cross Buns!
If ye have no daughters,
Give them to your sons.
-Kendall
I love to plan an Easter Getaway cause there are so many public holidays all at once, then you go, and it rains EVERY EASTER! he he he but we still have fun. :-)
