The staunch feminist in me shys away from the older fairytales where the girl meets the Prince, the old woman/witch/mother/step mother dies and they live happily ever after and the underlying moral of the story is that once you've found a guy and offed your mother, you're set for life. And Rapunzel is no different... but this isn't Rapunzel, it's a reworking.
Sure, Tangled has a fairytale ending, but it's not the same. In this version Rapunzel is a smart and sassy chick who shows that even though she is faced with some pretty tough stuff, she can handle herself just fine thankyouverymuch.
Is it schmaltzy? A little, it's a fairytale so it kinda has to be. But it's also hilariously funny. I did the whole laughing-out-loud-even-though-you're-the-only-one-watching trick at half of the things Flynn says.
One of my favourite parts of the movie would have to be the "I've got a dream" song with Vladimir and his ceramic unicorns. It was stuck in my head for days!

Glowless rocked the Aussie Bloggers Conference thanks to
It is a hard one picking a fav Disney charactor, but I am going to have to go with Sully from Monsters Inc.
ReplyDeleteBut it is a close race for favourite... there are just to many to choose from
Belle from Beauty and the Beast because she saw past the exterior monster to the good man inside.
ReplyDeleteWe love Buzz Lightyear and the way he states, 'to infinity and beyond!' We also dig his Spanish accent from Toy Story 3 so romantically hilarious.
ReplyDeleteI loved Tangled- also enjoyed the fact that it was Zachary Levi from Chuck who did Flynn's voice- I didn't know he could sing! My favourite character is probably Belle from Beauty and the Beast. It was my favourite Disney growing up and oh, how I wanted to be her!
ReplyDeletechoose my favourite Disney character? So hard! But I choose Kronk from the Emperor's New Groover (if I could choose a second I'd say Yzma, his evil boss).
ReplyDeleteKuzco: No! It can't be! How did you get back here before us?
Yzma: Uh... how *did* we, Kronk?
Kronk: Well, ya got me. By all accounts, it doesn't make sense....
I love Mater too. There are a lot of Disney characters i love, it changes so often. Tonight however, i'm feeling the love for Thumper. I am come on? How could you not love him?
ReplyDeleteChip Potts from Beauty and the Beast.
ReplyDeleteWatched Bolt with the kids the other night. I like Mittens - she has spunk. (the hamster is awesome tho!)
ReplyDeleteMrs potts from Beauty and the Beast ...
ReplyDeleteTale as old as time
Song as old as rhyme
Beauty and the beast
I love Ariel the Little Mermaid with a voice as sweet as an angel and disobediance like a little devil she is my all time favorite
ReplyDeleteMy favourite disney character is Ariel from The Little Mermaid because she is so curious about the world outside the ocean.
ReplyDeleteWould have to be Bruce the shark from Finding Nemo. We have a great white shark toy from the Melbourne Aquarium who my daughter named Brucey, he lives in the little dudes cot. Every night before bed I ''attack'' him with the shark. Good times. Love Nemo.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite disney character would have to be Giselle from Enchanted! she's gorgeous, sweet and can sing!! we love singing and dancing around the house to her songs - happy working song is my personal fav :o) I haven't seen Tangled so am crossing my fingers and toes for this one. Fab blog btw xox
ReplyDeleteI took Jack to see Tangled. We lasted half an hour - we crept out of the cinema just as she leapt onto the grass for the first time. I was very upset to miss the movie - the kids couldn't care less because they'd already had their snacks!! So...favourite Disney character?? Just one?? Definitely Tinkerbell. Not only because she scatters fairy dust everywhere in Peter Pan, but because in Tinkerbell-the-movie, we get to know the sassy fairy behind the cute green little dress (which is actually quite provocative...) She's a spunk and a half, and I love how she makes new things out of humans' junk. Quite the little sustainable fairy!!
ReplyDeleteOoh so hard to pick just one, but I'd have to say Lightning McQueen. Purely because my (now big) little boy was in live with that movie and he spent probably close to two years randomly saying 'Speed. I am Speed.' and it was so. darned. cute.
ReplyDeleteI must say I like so many, but one of our favourites in this household is Dory from Finding Nemo - I have a memory like her and my fiancé and 2.5yo daughter think it's pretty funny!! Hehe.
ReplyDeleteWe wanted to see Tangled in the movies but wasn't sure if it had any scary parts unsuitable for a 2.5yo so have the dvd on the Christmas list! :)
Donald Duck - I see some of myself in Donald Duck. He has a short temper, which I have been known to have. But overall, he has a positive outlook on life! He really 'quacks' me up!
ReplyDeleteOh I am a huge Dory fan..from Finding Nemo! Just keep swimming...I am forever quoting that damn fish!!
ReplyDeleteMy favourite Disney character is Woody from Toy Story. One of the friendliest, most genuine guys out there :)
ReplyDeleteMine is definitely Belle from Beauty and the Beast. I love that she is spunky and is not your typical "princess"/
ReplyDelete'Tigger' for his great energy and optimism.
ReplyDeleteThe perfect balance of gusto and mischieviousness.
And ever so cute and endearing.
Shere Khan the Tiger from The Jungle Book. Every Disney movie must have a villain and he's my favourite bad guy.
ReplyDeleteCinderella. I used to wish I had rats to help out around the house.
ReplyDeleteOur house loves Handy Manny, his cute, smart and always has great stories!
ReplyDeleteMiss 3's favorite at the moment is Cinderella. But I think mine would have to be Pinnochio with the blue fairy or Cinderella with how the fairy godmother turns the pumpkin into a carriage.
ReplyDeleteBelle from Beauty & the Beast because she saw the real beauty in Beast and loved all the characters in the story equally.
ReplyDeleteI love Tinker Bell from Peter Pan. I'd love to be a fairy, all that flying around looks like fun!
ReplyDeleteI'm already following you!
my fave would have to be Cinderella, and how the fairy godmother enchants everything.
ReplyDeleteDori from Finding Nemo ... she is hilarious and funny without knowing that she is just that.
ReplyDeletehas to jessie from toy story - a spunky strong cowgirl who can stand up for herself!
ReplyDeleteI'm Donald Duck because I get a bad temper when the house isn't clean
ReplyDeleteMickey Mouse: to me he's the original and best; besides he always sounds like he's been sucking on a helium balloon.
ReplyDeleteEasy one !!!! MATTER from disneys cars .... cute, friendly and gentle - a perfect lil man
ReplyDeleteWhy didn’t I think about this? I hear exactly what you’re saying and I’m so happy that I came across your blog. You really know what you’re talking about, and you made me feel like I should learn more about this. Thanks for this; I’m officially a huge fan of your blog.
ReplyDeleteSo hard to narrow it down to just one. Today, I think my favourite might be Lumiere from Beauty & the Beast. So hard to resist a charming French ladies man/candlestick. :-) If you ask me tomorrow, my answer would probably be different.
ReplyDeletetinkerbell who doesnt like magic and wish they could fly :)
ReplyDeleteMy favourite Disney character is Tinkerbell... because a happy thought is all it's needed to fly! Wheeeeeeeeeeeee
ReplyDeleteSnow White - to be around 7 dwarfs how cool would that be
