Highway Etiquette

When you upload a Vlog to YouTube it automatically chooses a still shot to be your thumbnail image.

Without fail mine is always a sneeze face. It's the height of attractiveness, the sneeze face.

You can go in and change the thumbnail, and being the completely vain person that I am, I swapped it for the least unattractive one there was. But it takes 36 hours for it to register apparently. So, for the next 36 hours... achoooo!

Do you wave to other drivers on the highway? Is it a fully fledged wave, a finger wave or snob nod?

  1. Love it!  We lived in the goldfields for years, and I was born in Newman.  Long drives, I know them well.  I always use three fingers and I don't discriminate.  Well, if someone is driving the same car, or has local plates, or looks like a seasonsed long-driver, I might use four fingers, and smile :D  But my hands never leave the wheel lol.  Unless the drivers look particularly excited to see another human, or I am particularly excited to see signs of life.  Thats more of a NorthWest travelling experience though...where signs of life can be few and farrrrr between.  Also, when your tweetdeck tingled, I assumed it was mine!

Map Guy agrees with you, says it's a whole different story north of Gero :P

  3. I generally wave to truckies, coppers and people with Tamby plates. If I'm in the mood I'll wave to just about anyone :)  I was born in Gero too, but lived most of my life in Perth.  I'm a pseudo country boy :)

  4. There's a fair few kilometres between Gero and Tamby - that would be a fun drive. I'd rather stick my finger in a plug socket than do that trip.

  5. I'm so coming back here in 36 hours to see the new image, good trick to get people to revisit your blog, tempt them with the promise of a new photo! But hey, you know I'd come back anyway....

And seriously, when I do my craft video's, if Mr Black is home he never fails to ask "WHAT DID YOU SAY?" halfway through. Dear, i'm not talking to you, why would I possibly talk to you. Lol.

  7. i give a little wave if they let me out in traffic or something...and sometimes i shout obscenities from my car if they cut me off.  then it's a little wave of a different kind.

  8. Definitely a wave when in the deep deep country, on isolated roads.  Never on a highway.  Always in my street, especially as I'm new here, don't want to upset any potential neighbours.  I do love Map Guy's range of waves, though.  He is very thorough.  I guess that's why he's a Map Guy?

  10. I thought he'd be gone much longer, he was buying a phone and whipper snipper. I can't do it when anyone else is home, I feel like too much of a dick.

  12. Maybe I should change it to Wave Guy or Country Boy.

  13. Classic!  I pretty much acknowledge people every day because the streets around our house are narrow and people park on both sides.  This leaves just enough 'side mirror scraping' room between the parked cars to actually, oh you know, drive down the road!!!!!  Who would have thought roads were for anything else but parking on.  Get a garage people.  End rant.  Ok, so there is a lot of pulling over and letting people through and I always acknowledge with a four finger wave.  Annoys me when people don't do the same for you.

  14. Love your Vlog!
When i lived out at Cobar, the trips were always long and boring so i'd wave to everyone. Now we live in the hunter valley people only get the wave if they let me out into the traffic, other wise its just a nod with a smile. :)

This is so good. I needed a laugh tonight, Miss Glow. Thank you for proving me with one x

  16. If someone lets me out into the traffic, I'll do the full hand off the wheel wave with a nod, which, by Map Guy standards, makes me look desperate so I should probably stop that.

If I ever vlog, it'll be when I'm alone, otherwise husband and children will totally vlogbomb.

  17. Hilarious! My country guy isn't quite that country but maybe cos we no longer live in the country I am missing all his snob nods :)

  18. Apparently it is some unwritten law that when living in the counrty and driving a car with country plates that you MUST wave at every frickin' other driver on the road. As you can imagine, coming from Manhattan, where it is customary to snarl at other people, I found this car wave rule hard to adjust to.

  19. Car drivers generally don't wave to each other around here, but motorcyclists do. And there are rules - Harley guys only wave to other Harleys, sportbikes wave to each other and no one waves to BMWs because they don't wave to anyone...and yep there's always the concern about too big a wave.

(Ah but when we're in the country hubby used to love giving a little beep of the horn when he saw someone moving a wheelbarrow *g*)
