iProtect my iPhone from my iToddler - Review & Giveaway

We've established previously that whilst I'm a bit of a Crunchy Mama that I'm not adverse to a bit of iParenting when the situation calls for it. Distracting Tricky from his crazy itchy eczema long enough for the creams to work stopped him gouging his skin off for the 3000th time and that alone makes me happy to say I'm OK with iStuff.

A few weeks ago I got myself a new baby... An iPhone 4S (the S stands for SUPER!) - the first top of the range phone I've ever bought. Tricky had his eye on it from the moment I whipped it out of the box. With Tricky (and every other toddler) it's a little bit like When Harry Met Sally because as soon as I start using something he comes along and says/grunts/cries "I'll have what she's having"... and there is Buckley's chance I'm giving him an $800 toy without any sort of protection. And no, a $5 jelly case just ain't gonna hack it, not with Mr Destructo.

Enter the Fisher Price Apptivity Case for iPhones (and iPod touch too!).

Oh my gawd. This little thing is unbelievably good.

Concentrating so hard. Also: cheeeeeeks!

Some of the things I love about it are the clear film that protects from drool and grubby, sticky fingers and the rubberized, shock absorbing inner lining which meant my two day old phone survived without a scratch when Tricky decided to throw it on to the pavement (my heart did miss a beat though).

But the thing that makes this little gadget completely awesome in my eyes is the way you can choose to block the home key to stop your clever munchkin navigating out of their game educational program and in to the app store to buy a $7.99 interactive guide to the best Himalayan eateries.

Because you have to lock the phone in, it does mean you've got almost zero chance of getting it out in time if you get a phone call... and if you have the home key blocked you won't be able to navigate back to the app without getting the whole thing out and starting again - but it's a small price to pay for the safety of your iBaby.

Playing with the apps that come with the case

Aaaand the bit you've been waiting for, I've got one of these to give away!

To get your baby or toddler's sticky hands on it all you have to do is tell me what was on the grubbiest, yuckiest, stickiest hands that were wiped all over you/your stuff by your charming spawn. For an extra entry, Tweet or Facebook about the giveaway then come back and tell me with a separate comment for each.

Entry is open to Australian residents only. Entries close at 10pm AEDST on Monday 12th December 2011 at which time three winners will be chosen using a random number generator. Make sure you sign in to the comment platform with a valid email address/twitter handle or leave your details as part of your comment so you can be contacted. Winners have one week to reply to notification, failing that, the prize will be redrawn. The prize is provided by Fisher Price and Thrive PR and is not transferable.

OMG it even comes with Apps!? I want it even more now!

I hope your not eating but the grubbiest thing would have to be the contents from a soiled nappy from an investigative toddler named Zahlee! I like that she explores and all... but not her nappy!

  2. I can't stand cheese. It totally grosses me out. So when the kids have cheese toasties and wipe their gritty hands all over me, it literally has me dry reaching.
I realise it's not as gross as some things, but it is my kryptonite!

  11. Yanno I have an iphone on it's way to live with me. I am very scared. Touch phones and I don't get along, my fingers never seem to be pressing the buttons I think I am.
Do you think my kids would be right? I doubt they'd get much of a turn because I have an issue with sharing anything that is cool.

  17. Peanut butter. Everywhere. The couch. My clothes. Everywhere. My hair. The toybox. Everywhere. The mirror. The carpet. Everywhere! I'm sure there's still some around, dry, crusted, stinkifying. I'm immune to these smells now!

What a great little prize. Thanks for the chance to win! Must keep Siri safe.

  18. Boo borrowed my iphone without me knowing.
I know this because when I picked it up it stuck to my hand.
It smelled like poo and oranges.
I do not know why it was so sticky and I am terrified to think what else was on it.

I need this thing to give to my sister in love so she will never know the horror of 'OMG WHAT IS THAT ON MAH PHONE!?'

  19. One of my sticky, usually covered in banana (i loathe banana) 2yo twins was so obsessed with my iphone a few months ago- I had to get him to go cold turkey. He jonesed for it for days. I had to cut him off tho. He kept calling my old work. I don;t know how he always found that number!!!

  22. Recently on a flight home from QLD, My daughter decided she needed entertainment, so she got mine..As we came into land she threw up-Nicely all over my phone!!
It was disgusting, I couldn't wipe anything and no one could help me because we had to remain seated while landing. Not a nice experience at all

  23. 'what was on the grubbiest, yuckiest, stickiest hands that were wiped all over you/your stuff by your charming spawn'. Which day? My 2 year old has decided she doesn't want to use a spoon or fork to eat so she grabs handfuls and shoves it in her mouth and then wanders around the house. I would have to say the messiest one is yoghurt. It is all over the back of our couch. Or spaghetti bolognaise. That one is a bugger to clean. Or mango, now that is sticky. Sorry Glow, I could go on and on.

  25. My girl is quite young but there was the time she pooped in the bath & then kicked her legs which splashed poop water all over both of us

Not specifically a hand grot story but it was disgusting!

  28. I've recently started a new job. Still trying to make a half decent impression. The other day I was wearing a new black skirt, and had just finished talking to a colleague when she gestured at the back of my skirt. There, right in the middle, was a perfect, sticky, white toddler handprint - toothpaste. The police couldn't have done a better job of lifting her prints. So that's where she wiped her hands that morning! Couldn't get it off, no matter how hard I tried, had to walk around like that all day. Nice!

It's got to be the Vegemite I discovered smeared over my bum one day - still not sure how I got there but it didn't look good and might have explained why I thought everyone was checking out my hot new jeans... Hmm

  32. Peanut butter. i hate the smell of it and the kids always seem to come in for a hug or kiss when its on their faces. I almost vomit. then when they are gone i will discover a patch of it on my shoulder or even worse on the side of my face. Vomit!!

  39. When my oldest was 2 years old he picked up a piece of doggy doo not knowing what it was and toddled over to me and then threw it at me.  Some might say it was a kodak moment but I was pretty grossed out!

  40. The worst thing thats happened to my iphone and me,
It was left in an unrecognised degree.
    With soggy banana strategically mashed,
Lets just say it looked pretty trashed!

  43. Do you really want to know? Well my son has wiped the contents of his pooey nappy all over our flat screen television. You see he was supposed to be having 'quiet time' but this was the result after leaving him alone for a few minutes while I put his younger brother to bed - he also managed to stuff it into the back of his dinky cars and even through the tiny windows into the actual dinky car itself. I didn't even bother trying to wash them - they just went straight into the bin. As for the tv it took a lot of time to gently clean the smears away off the screen without damaging the screen itself!!!

  45. This is brilliant, as the only way I get to see my new niece is through the I phone, this would be great so I could speak to her without her turning me off. I would love one of these. X

  49. Oh that's easy, after whipping up some awesome soy blueberry pancakes with yoghurt... well, you can imagine the mess as both my kids insisted on munching on blueberries while I cooked the pancakes...  I had blue stuff everywhere - even in my hair.  That'll teach me!

  55. I would have to say on behalf on my partner the grossest thing to him would be..........when he changed bubs wee nappy on the couch and as he lifted the legs to place the new nappy on bub popped off and pooed exploded everywhere all over my partner. The only thing we both did was just sit there and look at it and laugh so hard. It was EVERYWHERE.

  57. I've had my fair share of pretty gross things rubbed on me being a Mum of 3 but I reckon one of the worst things is smelly moshed up banana that gets that horrid sticky feeling oh and you can't forget the overpowering pungent smell either!

  59. Mr 5 decided to help me out and change Miss 8 months nappy for me, for the first time, while I was up to my elbows in a gigantic pot of spag bol. This resulted in "Muuuum!!!!! Charlie put her hands in her poo, and now she's trying to put them in her mouth!!!". She literally had poo from head to toe and decided to share by grabbing my hair. To make matters worse she was on the tail end of a bout of gastro....
