FlogYoBlog Friday: The Wiggle War Edition

Toot toot, chugga chugga, big red knife in the back.

What could have been a triumphant return from sickness for Greg Wiggle has turned in to a PR nightmare after it was discovered Sam Wiggle had been shafted with bugger all notice. The PR Fail was clinched though with an awkward interview on the Today Show.

Here's an artist's rendition my understanding of where Sam is now:

Sam, mate, call your union Woman's Day, but for now, perhaps a little Flog will make you feel better?

Are you Team Sam or Team Greg?? Or Team I-Don't-Fucking-Care-As-Long-As-It-Keeps-My-Kids-Quiet-So-I-Can-Have-A-Hot-Fucking-Cup-Of-Tea?

  1. I am the latter. But I have to admit, I do feel bad for the new guy, and also a wee bit pleased that the old guy is coming back. I'm fencing it like nobody's business.

  2. I'll take option 3 thanks! :D  Man... I hadn't watched that interview until now... that really was awkward :-/

  3. It was awkward alright. I went through the transition with my kid and thank God she's over them now. But I do feel sorry for Sam if the stories are true re: being a mere employee. Where's the red Wiggle?

Couldn't have said it better myself? I don't mind Greg, but the way Sam has been treated is deplorable so now leaning towards Team Sam! Biggest PR stuff up! Think they underestimate the power of parents behind children's viewing habits...

  5. I've always loved Greg having older nephews but the more I unearth about wigglegate the more I am very upset on Sam's behalf.  Plus they dumped him on his daughter's second birthday!

  7. Team Sam. He's been treated apallingly. Lost all respect for the others.

  8. I'm team Sam (cos my son aint a fan of change!) - but thank God for DVD's that we have with him in them... Think he was treated deplorably, especially for someone who sings all the songs!!!

  9. I liked Greg, but had just gotten used to Sam dammit! But mostly, I'm team number 3! :)

  10. I liked Greg and was sad when he left. Sam wasn't the same, but he was fabulous in his own way. I feel really sad about how it has all gone down. Sam was a part of the Wiggle family for a long time before being given the yellow skivvy and Greg shouldn't have thought he could just walk back in because he wants some more money. I think they could have handled it a lot better, maybe some guest spots for Greg, or if he really wnats back in and medically CAN do it, then they should have made a 5th Wiggle.
Sam, wishing you are Dorothy the best of luck. Fuck em. A lot of mum's will be happy to follow you on your new endevours.

  11. So I just watched the interview, I hadn't seen it before now.
Gosh Anthony is a dick. I've always thought that, he's a cock, but man he screwed up there.
Poor Jeff trying to shut him up, and Murry was smart to just not be there.

Also the whole "it's about the energy" dude you're like elderly now, if it was about the energy you'd keep the young guy!
    *shakes head*

  12. I've been a long time Greg lover but Sam won me over and now I am all confused again. I love the Wiggles, mostly because they give me quiet and I am appalled at how this has been handled. And since I wrote a post last night on them I've decided to link that up this week!
Love our interpretation of where Sam is - poor love.

  13. To begin with I was confused why The Wiggles had a bunch of old guys wearing skivvies on The Today Show instead of being there themselves. And then Anthony opened his fat gob and I realised that not only does the camera add 10kgs, it also adds 50 years to the face of a Wiggle!
I'm Team Sam as Miss 3 has only known him. Thankfully all the Wiggle DVDs in our house have Sam on them, and we'll not be buying anything in future.
I think The Wiggles have really bombed here - and I think its worse that this Greg person swans in simply because he needs some cash. And the way he denies it is pathetic - dude, I read the Womans Day Interview you did and you totally admitted to being strapped for cash.
Anthony - considering its a relative of yours who is the PR man for The Wiggles (actually, which members of your family AREN'T employed by The Wiggles? The list of them in the credits of a DVD is stupid - you could cut 10mins off closing credits by just adding a note that your entire family is employed and you're all sleeping on mattresses stuffed with our money. And you'll need to add an evil laugh after that, too.), did you not see him behind the Today Show camera waving his arms, running his fingers across his throat and trying to hang himself with his silk tie as you were flapping your gums?
For the future - those signals mean shut up.
Overall - respect has gone, and The Wiggles are blacklisted in our household.

  14. Team Hi 5. Don't like what they have done at all. Greg needs to move on.

    LOL, I am team as-long-as-the-wiggles-exist-I-don't-care-in-what-form ...

  16. Team Sam. I always thought the Wiggles had handled Greg's departure well, not promoting one of the other guys to be lead singer but recruiting a new one to ensure they lived on past the original four. All undone now. PR fail for me, and I haven't even watched the interview yet!

  17. Team Sam! Boo thinks Sam should get a green skivvy to keep it fair! The Wiggles are not playing nice!

  18. I'm in the last camp.  That video was cringe worthy. How could he not be prepared for that?!?!?!

    ReplyDelete
  19. I'm for Team Greg it just hasn't been the same without him but I feel bad how Sam was treated.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I thought I'd dreamed all of that... I must have heard it in my sleep when hubby's radio alarm went off :)

Definitely Team-I-Don't-Give - As long as SOMEONE is wearing the shirt, that's all that matters :)

    ReplyDelete
  21. Team Greg. All. The. Way. But I'm biased - I have no kids, therefore couldn't really care less about Sam, and I grew up in the 90's when Greg was all the rage. xx

    ReplyDelete
  22. Having said that, I do feel AWFUL for poor Sam.

    ReplyDelete
  23. From the outrage I have seen, I think they will lose a few coins. Like I said on Dannie's blog, Can't they all be friends and have 5 wiggles? It will be new and exciting...for 3 year olds. Imagine the money they would bring in, they would need all new merchandise, dvds etc. But no, they shafted Sam and now hes walked away with 60k out of the $28million they made last year.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Team Sam. I am no longer a Wiggles fan, just see flog number 53 for the full vent!

    ReplyDelete
  25. We are not a Wiggle family.  Very UnAustralian, I know, but none of us can stand them.

I am however, amazed by the reaction.  I think the kids will be over it waaaaaay before their Mummies!!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Hasn't it got the mum's in a frenzy? Greg was my generation of wiggle watching so I'm happy he's back but sad that Sam has been dumped and particularly the way in which he was dumped. I just think it was poorly handled - how the Wiggles could ever need crisis PR is beyond me - and I never thought I would see the day that Richard Wilkins was a hard hitting interviewer asking the tough questions. The worlds all topsy turvy for me.

    ReplyDelete
  27. The third one, definitely, although with us it is Peppa Pig!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I never warmed to Sam, but then my kids grew out of the Wiggles so I no longer cared.  Sam is definitely the better singer, but not quite daggy enough.  That interview was appalling!  You'd think they'd have a good PR person prepping them, wouldn't you?

Personally, I think the Wiggles are beginning to look old, weary and slightly embarrassing.  Time to trade them in for some younger models....

    ReplyDelete
  29. Whoa, living in the US I didn't know about this. I only know the Wiggles with Sam. I did know there was a previous yellow wiggle and I have seen clips of him. I think Sam was better.

    That sucks for Sam.
