The list of things
Miranda Kerr and I have in common is growing. Exponentially it would seem. We've both married hot dudes, popped out a kid and breastfed it, we're both naturally brunette, um, we're both women, err, we're both Australian. OK so it's a pretty short list of the clutching at straws variety. But now I can add that
we're both in this month's CLEO magazine.

She's on the cover. I'm on page 75. WE'RE PRACTICALLY TWINS!
You know how
I hate it when people spell out acronyms? Well I'm gonna break my own rule here and say this:
OH.
EM.
FUCKING.
GEE.

Yours truly is mentioned in an article about how to deal
with online trolls. The article, as you can see with the little pink haired dude above (remember them?), is called "I stood up to my troll", and
references my first proper
Twitter troll
who I managed to track down by going all CSI on his ass.

I know I should be all aloof and shit and make people believe that this is nothing, but if I'm honest, which is kinda the whole point of this here blog, I'm as happy as a chick with carbs, which is apt because I
am a chick who is carb loading by inhaling vast quantities of choc macadamia cookies. How else would I celebrate seeing my name, my
real name, in a national magazine?

The article is a bit longer than that and has a few different ways of dealing with trolls. My section contains an F bomb, albeit with a strategically placed asterisk, though this time it's not my potty mouth, it was the troll. If you're bored at the checkouts you should totally read it.
Now please excuse me while I go update my media kit with "as featured in CLEO". Do you think it's too much to get it printed on a t-shirt?
Oh rock this hard, girlfriend!!
ReplyDeleteYou totally need to get it on a t shirt, also I don't think it would be overkill to also get it printed on a hat and your underwear. Congrats! X
ReplyDeleteGo you! Definitely wear the tee, send one to Miranda too. I don't think she has one ;)
ReplyDeletePMSL Kim! I will send her one :)
ReplyDeleteawesome! look forward to seeing the t-shirt ;)
ReplyDeleteI say 7 tshirts in different colours so you can wear one every day.
ReplyDeleteAwesome with a capital A You so have to get the tshirt, mug, wrist band and badge to hand out to everyone.
ReplyDeletewoooohooo go you! Ill take one of your tshirts!
ReplyDeleteYou know I've had this issue sitting on my coffee table for a few weeks now untouched waiting to be read. All it took was seeing your post say "me on page 75" and I tuned out to the rest and picked up my magazine.
ReplyDeleteI remember this happening and I am so glad you stood up to your troll. I personally could ignore one off comments but when someone continues to attack me, well they need to be put in their place. Maybe they do feel powerful because there are so many who will ignore, but some people just need a punch in the groin.
You know you've made it as a blogger when you get trolled. Of course it is yet to happen to me.
ReplyDeleteHopefully all the attention this issue has received lately through the Charlotte Dawson debacle will make would be trolls think twice.
All the best
Mumabulous
With all this publicity you may need a PR person. Wait! Don't you know a guy who does PR?!
ReplyDeleteGo you! Shows what standing up to trolls can do. Next stop, Glow on the cover of Cleo. After all, haven't we seen/heard enough from Miranda for a while?
ReplyDeleteHigh five!
ReplyDeleteTattoo. CHEST PEICE TATTOO!
ReplyDeleteNow I have to update my Media Kit to say "Friend of Cleo featured Blogger"
ReplyDeleteI am so proud of you! Both for standing up to a troll and for getting into CLEO. A big step up from Offspring Magazine! And yes, I think you do have a lot in common with Miranda, but your hair is way fuller and bouncier than hers.
ReplyDeleteYou know you've made it if you get your name published in Cleo. ;>)
ReplyDeleteIf I ever meet you at a blogging conference I want your autograph. V.
PS Good on you for standing up to the troll.
Trolls suck. I've only had a couple of harassing messages from men, but only one really mean message, and boy was she mean. But I know EXACTLY who it is. Sometimes our supposed "friends" troll us too.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to on go and buy the magazine and read the rest of it now! I've never been trolled on my blog but I did get some horrible horrible horrible comments when one of my posts was published on Mamamia.
ReplyDeleteRemind me to get your autograph next time I see you.
ReplyDeleteOh. Em. Gee, need to read that article when I'm waiting at a checkout!
ReplyDeleteWell congrats - at least some good has come out of you having to deal with trolls. I had a small piece in the Business Chicks magazine recently - they asked if I could answer the 'health & fitness' questions. After my little guffaw they offered me 'finance' or 'holidays'. I took health & fitness, and only lied a little bit.
ReplyDeleteSO MUCH YES.
ReplyDeleteSadly I think it'll just make trolls be more careful :(
ReplyDeleteAwesome stuff, Rachel!
ReplyDeleteYou should read the one about Miranda, too. It's only fair :P
ReplyDeleteHaha that's what my mum said
ReplyDeleteThe comments on Mamamia are vicious, that would have been terrible x
ReplyDeleteI have a stamp that I normally brand people with... will that do? :P x
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a bit of a jump from Offspring :) But I remember where we started xxx
ReplyDeleteThis is my most favourite comment ever x
ReplyDeleteBWAHAHAHAHA
ReplyDeleteKnuckle bumps!
ReplyDeletePMSL ahhhh think I might let her keep the covers
ReplyDeleteI've still got his mobile number, maybe I should give him a call? ;-)
ReplyDeleteAhh a punch in the groin. I wonder if we can organize that?
ReplyDeleteExcellent, I'll start an online shop :P
ReplyDeleteOMG I love your thinking. Keychains and magnets too! But not mousepads, they're shit.
ReplyDeleteThis is why you're awesome, Cate.
ReplyDeleteI read the bit about you and I was like oh yeah! I remember when that happened!
ReplyDeleteWell Done Glow!
And matching hat, of course
ReplyDeleteUNDERWEAR? Genius!
ReplyDeleteCheers, Ames! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Alyce, I was a bit chuffed to say the least x
ReplyDeleteI just love it when good comes from bad.So happy you didnt let that troll win but even happier you can now brag about being in CLEO !!!
ReplyDeleteGet the article made into a poster and put it on your wall.
