Just fucking do it

I think some of us need a reminder sometimes. I know I do.

Kim from Frog Ponds Rock said those words to me recently and I thought "Ima put that shit on a poster and put it as my wallpaper". I can always count on her to say something that makes me wanna fist pump.

It goes for everything. Whether it's your decision to monetize your blog, to have an elective c-section, to be vegan, to breastfeed your kid until it's seven, to embrace the latest fashion trend, to sing the praises of 50 Shades as a literary masterpiece or to support the world domination of One Direction.

Say what you mean.

Mean what you say.

Someone is bound to disagree with you and be as emphatically passionate about their beliefs as you are yours.

Speak your truth, hold your head up high and all will be well.

If we all agreed? Fuck, it would be so boring.

  1. Good, so I won't justify that I do LOVE LOVE the whole Twilight Saga and stalk the two main stars AND their saga. ;) Nope, not embarrassed at all! There! Said it and feel better too.

  2. I really love this and it's how I live my life. Perhaps that's why I'm such an anti-social bitch?
You are in charge of your life and the direction it takes. If you want to cower and change something you enjoy because of someone elses opinion or potential opinion, then that is YOUR choice.
I personally would prefer to do things that work for me and make me happy. Yeah, sure I'm going to have an opinion on things that you do, just as you will of things I do. Sometimes we may even discuss it, but we are still who we are and it doesn't mean we can't be friends. Right?

I find it's actually very hard to find people who are pretty laid back and ok with this notion. Sometimes I can't understand why because it's so freeing. It is you giving yourself permission to be happy and ok with your shit. How wonderful it would be if we could all adopt this way of thinking. If you could sit down with a friend, your kid on your boob hers with a bottle and talk to each other about the pro's and con's of each and still love one another and respect the other person because they're just living their life their way and you're living yours your way.

  4. Perfect message! Had a big 'fucking do it!' moment this week, and I feel so liberated. Was a big healing moment in my depression too, which shocked me

  5. Totally agree Glow.I have also found this saying useful "No other bastard is going to do it for you."

  6. LOVE this. Shakespeare said 'To thine on self be true'... but I like the way you said it better x

  7. Love it. I laughed at the do not apologies thing. It has nothing to do with what your talking about but the hairdressers that came to cut my hair she kept apologising for nothing. It was excessive. The day after I found out my little daughter had taken her scissors and comb out of her bag and thrown them into the toy box. She came to pick them up today and apologised for it lol I told her I'm the one that should be apologising so stop it lol.

  8. Word. Or, you know, lots of them. Words I mean. Yeah, I'm saying it...I'm meaning it...just nobody can understand it.

Anyway, you had me at fist pump.

  9. Well this just reminds me of last nights conversation! :)

It's true though. If you are going to say something that you feel passionate about, have the gumption to stand by it if others disagree! Otherwise how are you being true to yourself?

  10. AGREED. If you explain it or apologise for it you just make yourself less awesome.

  11. :-) So many words. So little time to read them all. So little care. Am under my rock and happy....

  12. Great motto. Must remember it when I'm dithering. Which is a lot of the time.

  13. Amen! Could not agree more!
    *looks around sheepishly*
I do not need to justify my love of Phantom of the Opera (the stage productions, not the 2004 movie.)

  14. You are my hero. But you already knew that.

  15. Love it. And I agree wholeheartedly. My teen daughter had a difficult email to write recently, where she had to say 'no' to something that might be unpopular, and I told her to delete the last line where she apologised for being fussy or difficult. I told her not to apologise for being herself. I think it's a particularly female trait.

  16. This could not be more timely for me, as I prepared to send an apologetic email about work when in reality I have nothing to apologise for. Instead I'm just gonna DO IT, send the work without apologies or justifications and let it speak for itself. Thank you.

  22. YES! Being proud of awesome things isn't a bad thing :)

  23. Exactly. How many of us apologize for things that don't require an apology! I know I do it but I'm trying really really hard not to. It's OK to say no without a three page letter to say sorry.

  25. And that's why you're ace, Rachel. I agree, I've not met many men who do it as much as we do.

  26. Duuuuude I LOOOOVE Phantom of the Opera! But the other way around - I couldn't watch the movie because I loved the stage show so much :)
